The Ultimate SlamRank – Intro

Welcome to the Ultimate SlamRank! This section is just an introduction. It’s here to explain what the criteria was, which notable players have been excluded, and which players barely missed the cut.

So how was the ranking decided?

Well, due to the weird nature of the Shrek SuperSlam scene, an objective ranking like TrueSkill doesn’t work, because there just isn’t enough info. Lots of players have only entered a single tournament, or are completely independent of other scenes. So the only way to interpret skill is by a panel vote. A panel consisting of kirby, m0th64, scrubjr, ProviderOfSouls, Squeachu, Flick and RetroGamersGuru all submitted a list that consisted of at least 25 people (as not everyone was knowledgable enough to submit a full top 100). Then, outliers, and ineligible players were removed, and what was left was combined to make this ranking.

What determines whether a player is eligible?

For this ranking, only players that have entered at least a single tournament were eligible. The only exception to this rule was a player that was active in their local scene, attending various offline meetups in their region. This disqualifies two players that would almost certainly have made it otherwise. I’ve listed them below.

Sleeping Beauty

Perhaps the most skilled player that is completely ineligible, Sleeping Beauty was an active contributor on ShrekBoards up until their retirement. With regular posts about their discoveries and thoughts, this Swedish Anthrax main is almost certainly good enough to be on the ranking, but as they’ve never played against another real player, it’s impossible to say. On the previous ranking, they were ranked 13th purely as an estimate. Either way, even if they’re ineligible to receive a ranking, Sleeping Beauty’s contributions will not be forgotten.

Mr. Casual

The god himself, Mr. Casual earns the rank of infinity as a testament to his eternal wisdom

The man, the myth, the legend. To give him a numbered ranking would be an insult to his greatness. Though he has never played against a real person, the limitless power of the god Mr. Casual is undeniable. If he ever joins the competitive scene, may Red Riding Hood have mercy upon us all.

What players barely missed the cut?

So now that the honourable mentions are out of the way, all that’s left is to list the near-misses. Let’s take a look at the closest five.

#105 – Mickey

If this ranking was about hatred for the game, Mickey would certainly be a top contender, along with other players such as HumptyTrumpty. But unfortunately, this is a skill-based ranking, and both of Mickey’s sets ended in crushing losses. But his potential was undeniable, so he earns himself an honourable mention in this list of greats.

#104 – DiabolicalSloth

Boasting a win over Ultimat3Spaz at Heir II the Throne, DiabolicalSloth is a Shrek SuperSlam veteran that placed 29th on the previous SlamRank. However, it previous exploits don’t quite make the cut for top 100 this time.

#103 – dilliam (Bone)

An up-and-coming Shrek main, dilliam made his debut at The End of Shrek SuperSlam, but unfortunately failed to win any sets, losing to hunterstuff and Mast3rOfFlavor.

#102 – Camera1

An up-and-coming Humpty Dumpty main, Camera1’s most well known tournament appearance is Soupy Smash 3, where he placed 3rd behind established slammers Dan Soup and FishEatCorn. He also attended Heir III, where he picked up a win on cleverpidgeon (who was playing under the name “Puff1n” at the time).

#101 – Whale

The infamous keyboard G-nome player, Whale is unfortunately the player that misses top 100 by the narrowest margin. But don’t dismiss him just because he missed the top 100 — he expressed interest in returning to the scene at The End of Shrek SuperSlam, but unfortunately had to drop out due to last-minute obligations. A community fan favourite, one thing’s for sure: the day Whale returns to the scene will be an exciting day for us all.
